Bias
Bias in the Devil in the White City is not prevelent. Although Erik Larson does take some creative liberties in creating dialog, etc., he is quite neutral about character portrayal. There is an inherent bias in any nonfiction book, the voices left out. Larson told the story mainly through Burnham's and Holmes' point of view. There are many characters, such as other architects and Holmes' associates, that the reader is never given an opportunity to understand their motives or reasoning. Larson also portrays Holmes in a way that makes him seem more understandable than a serial killer would normally be portrayed.
